Small Grant Program

Basic Requirements

  • The applicant must be a registered 501(c)(3) corporation, school district, or government agency which serves the North Kitsap community. We may request proof of eligibility (i.e., an IRS 501(c)(3) determination letter, corporate charter and by-laws, and financial statements.)
  • The organization must provide services in one or more of our primary Focus Areas:
    • Arts and Culture (including parks and recreation)
    • Children and Youth Development
    • Education
    • Environment and Animal Welfare
    • Health and Human Services (including housing, employment assistance and vocational training services)
  • Past applicants and award winners may apply again.

Guidelines on Use of Funds

  • We prefer requests that require a single one-time investment to fund equipment purchases, small capital projects, or start-up programs. We also fund program services for individuals (e.g. transportation, rental assistance, food, employment assistance, etc.).
  • We generally do NOT award small grants for:
    • Everyday operating expenses
    • Events, sponsorships, or unrestricted donations to capital campaigns or endowments
    • Funding of projects where our small grant would not materially contribute to the project’s success.
    • Individuals or for-profit organizations
    • National or regional organizations that are unable to clearly demonstrate how the funds will be used to serve our North Kitsap community
    • Organizations that discriminate on the basis of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, national origin, religious affiliation, or presence of a disability
    • Religious organizations requesting funds for sacramental or theological purposes. (Note: Funding will be considered for secular programs or services that are available to eligible participants without regard to religious belief or willingness to participate in religious activities.)

Expectations of Grant Recipients

  • Grant funds will be used within 12 months (unless an extension is requested)
  • Grant funds will be returned to the Club if the proposed project is cancelled or otherwise not completed.
  • Award winners will report back to the Club on the use of funds and the benefits derived.
  • Award winners will acknowledge support of Poulsbo Rotary in social media posts, web sites, and project-specific communications.
